Navigating the American Judicial System can be a complex and daunting task. Even more so, those seeking legal counsel and representation may feel overwhelmed in their search. To help clear the fog, we spoke to Alexander Petraglia, a trial attorney in the Tristate area with a robust background in medical malpractice trials, class action lawsuits, and personal injury settlements.

Alex, tell us about yourself. How would you describe yourself as a person and as a legal professional?

I am an honest, hardworking attorney. I make myself available to my clients, and I give my cases 100 percent.

Why did you choose law?

I wanted to help people. I have always wanted to be an attorney who fought the man. My mother read To Kill a Mockingbird to me when I was 8, and from then on, I wanted to be just like Atticus Finch.

Could you tell us more about your areas of specialization?

I am a trial attorney with a background as a Felony Trial Attorney for the Public Defenders. I now try both Felony-level criminal offenses and medical malpractice claims.

What kinds of cases or issues are you currently working on?

Currently, about 70 percent of my practice is dedicated to the Doctor Durrani litigation. While our individual verdicts are still sealed, our trial team has amassed over 100 million dollars in jury verdicts.

What kinds of things give you the most satisfaction in your work?

Winning. I am a fierce competitor.

What do you consider to be the greatest challenge of your job?

Telling a potential client that they do not have a case because the statute of limitations has expired. If you think that you have been hurt, please do not hesitate to contact me or another attorney so your case can be evaluated in a timely manner.

What makes you a good trial advocate?

Experience and mentorship. I have been fortunate to work closely in trial with some of the best legal minds in the Tristate area, including Rodney Harris, Alan Statman, and Eric Deters. When you work on legal theories with the best, it is bound to rub off. One of the consistent feedback that I have received was hard work and preparation. If I am representing you, I pledge that I will be ready to fight for you.

How do you go about building a trusting relationship with a client?

Time. I make sure that I make myself available to all my clients. They have my personal cell phone, and I take the time to answer any question that they have.

What do you feel are things that help a person become successful?

Always put your clients first. Often, attorneys are worried about their relationship with the Court, the Judge, or other attorneys. They are worried about rocking the boat. My job is to keep my clients satisfied with their representation, which they almost always are.
